Em & Kelly working via Labor and Delivery! We are die hard wedding planners!
What is Maternity Leave???
What is Maternity Leave???
My last supper! Leslie went and got me a Chicken Sandwich from Norman Rose...last meal I could have before they started the Pitocin! It was DELICIOUS!
Sorry...can't figure out how to change the photo but it was Yummy!!!
So....Nick, Mom and I arrived to Queen of the Valley Hospital at 7:30am. We got all settled in Room 3 and at 9am they gave me 1/2 of a pill that was suppose to help me go into labor! 5 hours later nothing....I wasn't dilated and no contractions so they gave me the other 1/2 of the pill...4 hours later still nothing so they tried to break my water...NO SUCH LUCK...and so Dr. Kirk said at 7:30pm they were going to start the Pitocin. Basically the entire day was very uneventful. I kinda wondered why I was there and there was even mention that if nothing worked they might send me home the next day and I would come back later that week...I did not want that to happen! I was ready to have this baby!! :) :)
At 7:30pm they administered the Pitocin and about 30minutes later I started to have contractions. They weren't that bad I used my breathing techniques and I was handling it...then they started to intensify! It was getting a little crazy! They gave me a little something through my IV to make me comfortable but that still didn't really work too well....so finally about 11:30pm I said I wanted the epidural! Mel...the anestisologist (sp?) came in and gave me the epidural...I didn't even feel it and within 20 minutes the contractions were better and like Mel said I would be his new best friend and I was....UNTIL.....about an hour or so later when the contractions came back and were hurting so bad! Each one felt a little worse. I forgot to mention that after I got the epidural Dr. Kirk said that I probably wouldn't deliver till 7am in the morning so Mom, Dad and Emarie decided to go home and Nick promised to call them when it was getting close so they could come back but at least they could get some sleep and not be up all night! Right after they left Dr. Kirk came in to check me and I was dilated to 5 and so he wanted to break my water...He broke my water and we were on our way!
Well......getting back to the contractions coming back and hurting like crazy about 30minutes after he broke my water is when it was very painful!!! ...I told the nurse I needed something more as this was unbearable! Dr. Kirk came in and told me that I had a really low tolerance for pain (something I have never been told before) and that I really needed to pace myself as I had till about 6am-7am before the baby would be here! I told him I was sorry and that I was really in a lot of pain...he said he was sending Mel in to up my epidural....meanwhile the nurse came into check on me and told me if I felt a lot of pressure to let her know.....literally as soon as she walked out the door I looked at Nick and said I feel pressure I think it is time to push! Mind you this is about 1:40am....I said go get Dr. Kirk...he went and got Dr. Kirk and Dr. Kirk came back and said I went from 5 centimeters to -2 in less than 30 minutes and it was time to push! He said no wonder you were in so much pain!!! So Nick called my parents and they didn't answer there phones..don't they know someone is having a baby?? So he called Emarie's phone and she answered and said come on back Kelly is going to have the baby anytime now!
They made it back just in time!
Kate was born at 2:51am...I told Dr. Kirk I wanted to have her before 3am and I did it!!! :)
When she was born Nick said "It's A Girl.....It's Kate"
It was the sweetest thing ever...I can't ever put into words what that moment was like and how incredible it was to hear him say the sex of our baby and then he announced her name! There was no discussion about "does she look like a Kate?" Is Kate the name...? Nope it was It's a Girl.....It's Kate and she handed her to me!!! Amazing!!
Never in a million years did I think I could love something so much...other than my husband of course...but my love for my daughter is something I have never felt in my life and I feel so blessed to have her and the most amazing husband and Daddy to our baby girl!
Mommy & Daddy Love You Kate thank you for coming into our lives! You complete us!
